About HomelabCompass

HomelabCompass exists because choosing homelab and self-hosted infrastructure shouldn't mean wading through affiliate-bait listicles and vendor datasheets. Every comparison here takes a clear side, stays current, and is grounded in real infrastructure experience and careful research, not rephrased marketing.

Who writes this

I'm , an Engineer II at a managed IT services provider. I run a homelab and work with this class of infrastructure professionally: firewalls, hypervisors, NAS, containers, and the networking underneath. I have hands-on time with many of the tools compared here. For the ones I haven't run myself, I research them properly and still commit to a recommendation rather than hedging. Either way, I show the reasoning so you can judge the verdict yourself.

Independence

No vendor pays for placement, reviews, or a verdict here. Some pages end with a short "What to buy" list whose links earn a commission: Amazon (as an Amazon Associate, HomelabCompass earns from qualifying purchases) and a few retailers' own affiliate programs, such as Namecheap. Those pages say so at the top. The picks follow the verdict, never the other way around, and buying through them costs you nothing extra.
